On approaching the Maurice Bishop International Airport, greater known as the (Grenada airport),I was welcomed by the immigration officer. He said,”Why you Trini came this time of the month and not the Carnival period” I replied,”I am a Carnival baby, is Trinidad I am from,I came to relax in you’ll island.”He replied,”Okay,I understand.”Everyone knows Trini for having a good time, partying, carnival celebrations, etc.

I took a Air BnB for my accomodation, for the ones that do not know it is an online platform which connects individuals who are travelling to the country of their desire to rent homes from persons who used their property to earn extra cash. The cost frequently be at a lower cost than a hotel would charge. My hosts Selwyn and Tonia showed great hospitality service.I was greeted with a clean studio apartment, with a few drinks and a little food stuff since I flew to the island of Grenada at the night time.

Some people when they hear the Caribbean, they have this mis-conception that the countries in the Caribbean are backward and it is not as modernise as other countries.Let me tell you’ll something travelling to South beach,Miami and traveling to Grand Anse,Grenada. The Caribbean white sand and crystal clear sea water is the best beach thus far,I came across. On this beach in Grenada tourist stormed the beach in abundance, they are just relaxing on the beach taking their ‘tan’ and the others are having a great time.Hardly did I saw locals on the beach. The wonderful and beautiful Umbrellas bar and restuarant is situated on the beach with low cost food and drinks for the scenery being captivated.

I was enlightened how lovelythe beach was and I said to myself,”The Caribbean is such a beautiful place,as we Caribbean people take for granted.”I overheard a local said,’They are alot of poor people in Grenada,if you ever been to the countryside you will see for yourself.”Only at that moment I taught to myself,”Is that true?”I decided to do my own little survey to observe the answer to that question.I drove to the countryside,my destination was Concord waterfall for those who may know.I saw with my two eyes how poor most Grenadians live, the houses, the hustle mentality in the countryside, the children in the street selling anything they can get their hands on to make an honest dollar. You know sometimes in life we promote the tourist destinations and such,we never pay attention to the people and the things that really matters, the areas that really need our assistance, the children that need our help.

On the other hand on my trip I observed the St.George’s University bus passed down and up the road with students in the bus.I was like is this the main University in Grenada. On doing my research,I found that it is the premier choice in Caribbean Medical Schools,it draws students and faculties from over 140 countries to the island of Grenada, with a approximate total of 8,000 plus students. When these students obtain their degrees, certificates and such, they travel abroad for betterment as there are not much companies or medical offices to employ them. The University specializes in medicine, veterinary, public health ,nursing, sciences and business.I mention this to reiterate the need to grow local industries, for people to start their own local businesses.Yes, it is good for foreign businesses to invest, however the local markets is decreasing drastically.Grenada is magnificent, however it hurts my heart to hear that students have to leave their families to obtain a better life for themselves resulting in families and loved ones to be separated.

I see market development in housing for students locals can be provided,I see lands not being used for diversification of planting of crops.I am seeing a lot of opportunities for citizens of that country to grasp. When I was in Grenada I chat with the owner of the Air BnB property and he told me he was an IT technician in the United States and he was laid off his job in 2009 after living most of his life in the US.He said is time to return home. With the money he saved over the years of working in the United States he invested it in a property and made that one property into different apartments. He now rents his various apartments to students who attend the University and to travellers who are looking for a temporary place to stay.Furthermore he mentioned to me that the losing of his job was an opportunity for him to be greater,in life we feel by being deprived of something or not accomplishing one thing, it is the end of the world,no it is not, sometimes that is your ‘stepping stone’ to become greater. As Selwyn shared that piece of information with me I was proud of his accomplishment.I was inspired and motivated to be great one day. With persistence and diligence one can accomplish such dream.
