How To Understand LinkedIn Algorithm?
The most important piece of advice I have for you is that the LinkedIn algorithm has changed for those who love to go back into their posts and edit.
You are hurting the reach of your content.
DON’T MAKE CHANGES AT ALL TO YOUR POST ONCE YOU HIT PUBLISH.
Once you hit “edit post” you are essentially starting from scratch again. If you have to edit, delete the post and start over or make the correction in the comment section.
Moving further the LinkedIn algorithms are designed to highlight individuals over company profiles. Most times, to obtain good engagement from a company’s post you have to spend purchasing LinkedIn ads.
Taking into consideration that the more company followers, the higher the page will rank in LinkedIn search results, sparking greater reach and potential interaction with its content.
The LinkedIn algorithm is smarter than you think, for example, they are (3) tier levels your content goes through to reach its full potential, they are:-
1) Spam — if your content is considered “not spam” or authentic in (layman’s terms) then it gets posted to your audience in your city (a small group of followers).
2) Low quality — Once you receive engagements (likes, comments) it goes up a tier level, to a wider audience in your region.
3) High quality — more engagement is received, LinkedIn shows it to your 2nd and 3rd-degree connections, and you gain the opportunity to go viral.
PLEASE NOTE: The algorithm is always changing and in May 2022 the algorithm went through a pretty significant update to make it more complex to obtain engagements and root out some bad elements on the LinkedIn platform, based on users’ feedback.
Engagement is still the number one thing that gets a post most prioritized by the algorithm. Your posts are favored if they are considered quality content and if they generate interactions. What people are not aware of is that LinkedIn penalizes you for a lot of things, for example:-
1) Don’t message someone in their inbox and say like my post or comment on my post, (the AI technology is picking up the keywords and penalizing you for that spam message)
2) Don’t post political content, LinkedIn is a professional cooperate platform. You can get a jail ban for this type of content. LinkedIn I never want to go to jail for weeks or a month. I will obey.
3) Don’t put “Leave a comment if you want to receive my free guide” you will be penalized for that. If your content is awesome, people will reach out to you for your ‘FREE GUIDE.’
You must be mindful not to use this sequence of words at the risk of seeing your post, even legitimate, will become invisible.
Men: Do you know that women are 17.3% more viral than men? that means I have to work harder on myself and my content, and so should you.
My recommendations are to focus on quality over quantity and post once a day, not twice or thrice. When adding images, upload high-quality images. LinkedIn favors this and is specific with your content. Reach your target audience by speaking directly to them. In other words, get to the point.
Content is the new way of advertising, converting leads into clients.
Be educational, funny, inspirational, and specific with your message.
